About a month ago, I traveled down to California to throw my only sister a baby shower. Since many friends and family were unable to make it to California for the shower, we also hosted a virtual baby shower where long distance family and friends could join in on the fun. We sent out a little invite that looked like this . . .
My sister's theme for her nursery is jungle animals so I just kind of stuck with the theme to make a little invite which we printed and mailed and also e-mailed to friends and family.
Friends and family could join in on the baby shower fun by:
- Showing up at the house for the actual shower
- Calling in during the time of the shower
- Skype-ing in during the time of the shower
- Posting well wishes on the Facebook virtual baby shower page or participating in the games posted on the page.
My sister put together a series of 10 games that people could play before the shower leading all the way up until my little nephew was born. Here are a couple of the games:
At the conclusions of the games, she sent out gift cards for prizes.
Now onto the actual shower. I would have loved to have gone all out with decorations and favors and things but because I was short on time, we kept it simple. Some of the details . . .
We had fruit, banana eggrolls, chicken satay, bread with spinach and artichoke dip, tropical rice krispies squares, oreo cupcakes, and pregnatinis (no alcohol). My BIL Davis went to the party store for me and managed all the decorations - we just texted back and forth. He did great.
Many of Jamie and Davis' friends came as couples and brought their kids so we sent the guys out back with the kids for a backyard BBQ.
As a traditional shower goes, we played some games. We did the name the baby animal game and a crowd favorite . . . guess the poopy diaper (you melt different chocolate bars in diapers and people have to guess which candy bar by the texture of the "poop")
Of course, we also did the string game where you have to cut a piece of yarn that is the length of the circumference of Jamie's baby belly. Her friend Monica got it perfect.
Following games, we opened up gifts and hung out and talked. Let's just say my little nephew got a lot of nice stuff. The little guy got lots of stylish duds. Some more moments from the shower . . .
Before everyone had to leave, we had my dad (he came down to California with us) take a picture of our group.
It was a fun day and I was so very excited to celebrate the impending arrival of my sister's baby. I have a bunch of nieces and nephews on my husband's side of the family, but on my side of the family, my kids were the only ones and I have only one sister and no brothers. So YES, I was so very excited to be getting a new nephew, who is by the way, a very handsome little guy. I will have to share a picture of him soon.
More blog posts to come.
Til then, I just want to wish all of my friends, family, and blog readers a joyous and Happy Mother's Day!
