happy hearts day!
to be honest, i think of valentine's day as kind of a hallmark holiday more than a real one because shouldn't you celebrate the loves of your life everyday?
however, my kids love love the giving out of valentines at school and i do recall it as a fond memory. i remember back in the day we would transform cereal boxes or shoe boxes into "mailboxes" to carry our valentines home.
there were so many neat and cool ideas out there for homemade valentines but here is what we came up with . . .
i printed these off as 4x6's, folded them in half, and stapled them to cellophane bags filled with candy.
digital patterned papers are from the "Funky Fresh" and "Cupid's Room" collections that can be purchased from at Jessica Sprague
digital art is designed by Rubber Punkin (xoxo) and Peptogirl (macaroni) from valentine printables

the kids and i also enjoy crafting so valentine's is a fun excuse to get down with a little crafty goodness.
the twins have several teachers as the 5th grade is departmentalized and they trade classes just like the junior high kids. so we came up with this . . .
Mike's had these ceramic heart dishes on sale for 99 cents so i picked up a few. i also picked up some Hershey's hugs which were on sale at Target this week
we filled the heart dishes with the hugs, wrapped up the dish with a bit of cellophane and ribbon (which was $1 on sale at Mike's too), and tied these tags on them . . .
i printed them on orange peel cardstock (i love the texture), cut them out, rounded the corners, and inked the edges with red ink
for zack's teacher, we did this . . .
the tutorial was found HERE . Amy has some super cute ideas and is very talented.
the supplies . . .
newspaper, masking tape, foam brush, glass etching stuff, doodlebug cardstock stickers (i chose these cuz they happen to have a really cute heart on the sheet), and a glass jar (this is a medium size from Target for $5 - they are the perfect size for adding words and incidentally vinyl - i have made some really stinkin' cute vinyl jars and filled them with all kinds of fun stuff)
you are supposed to use rubber gloves but mine were MIA. i just was very very very careful. you leave the stuff on for about 3-4 minutes. and then you rinse it off. you should really be very very careful and wear gloves. i mean it. despite being very very careful, i corroded one of my fingertips.
after rinsing the jar and washing it good with soap and water, i filled it with lots of yummy homemade oatmeal valentine m&m cookies.
the hearts filled with hugs and the cookie jar were both big hits.
i've got one more really cool "heart"-y craft to share but it will have to wait til tomorrow. it's still drying.
and then it is time to bust out easter? or do you do st. patty's day? i have no patty day decor. maybe i will have to find an excuse to make some. i do love green. it's my favorite.
til next time, take care.
