Hold the phone!
Is this a blog post or are your eyes deceiving you?
I have been a horribly crappy blogger.
I'm sorry.
This year has just been off to a quick start and it's crazy to find we are already headed into March. It seems like just yesterday we were toasting the commencement of the new year with glasses of sparkling cider. I really hate when I find that so many weeks have lapsed in between posts as I forget so many of the things which have happened. I guess the only thing I can do is to touch on the highlights and events and work my way backwards.
So moving along . . .
Last Tuesday evening, our ward had their annual Blue and Gold Banquet for the Cubscouts. The Blue and Gold Banquet is a bit more of a special pack meeting where not only do we commemorate all the hard work the boys have been doing with the giving of awards, but we also celebrate the birthday of Cub-Scouting and honor the hard work of the leaders also.
The den leaders were asked to pitch in a couple of cakes and some of the food. I barely was able to get my assignment done without Madison's help. Tuesdays are really crazy busy days for our family with both soccer practices, violin lessons, and Cubscouts. This one was even crazier as I had spent the whole morning at the church with other leaders setting up and then spent the afternoon at the orthodontist with the twins. Madison has been taking a culinary class at the high school this past year and had recently learned a bunch of techniques for cake decorating. Madison did a great job with the 15-20 minutes she had to get 2 cakes assembled and frosted.
Zack's Webelo den participated in both the flag ceremony and the skit for the evening.
Pack meetings are a little crazy with a bunch of 8, 9 and 10 yr old boys getting together. The Blue and Gold was no different. Zack has quite the personality and so he did not miss opportunities to be a little silly . . .
or to share a fun moment with one of his fellow Webelos . . .
These two have known each other since birth. Like literally. They were born less than 24hrs apart in the same hospital. His mom and I had almost shared a room.
Zack has not been to a pack meeting in almost a year due to a conflict with soccer practice, so he was pretty excited to finally get all the awards he had not received. Especially his Bear which he had earned at the beginning of the school year.
Normally both parents are supposed to come up when the boys receive their advancements, but Ryan had to coach a soccer game that evening across town. Zack joked with the audience that he was so excited to finally get a chance to "poke" his mom with a pin.
In our ward, we have fun traditions that go along with the advancements. Wolves get to "wolf down" a plate of Ding-Dongs. Bears get to gum down a plate of gummi "bears". Webelos get to "blow" the biggest bubble they can with several pieces of bubble gum.
Zack got to do the gummi bear thing with his close friend Conner.
The other thing that our ward does is that the boys get to lead the pack in a fun cheer after they receive their awards. Zack and Conner decided to do the "big bubble" cheer.
and later Zack helped lead a "dynamite" cheer
The final events of the evening included an Arrow of Light ceremony for the oldest boy in the Webelos who is moving on to 11yr old Scouts and the Webelos also got to share some stuff they did to earn their "Leave No Trace" badge and "Artist" pins.
It was a fun evening for Zack and he was pretty proud of his haul of awards . . .
Now all I have to do is find the time to sew them all on to his uniform.
